So I know it’s been a while since I have made a new post and I apologize, I have been really slammed with work and school. In today’s post I want to talk about a great photography site for sharing and even selling your photos. The website is http://www.eyeem.com.
This site is based in Germany and seems to be a really great place to upload and share your photos and even put them in their marketplace to sell them as well. I have been on EyeEm for about 3 years now and although I am not getting rich, I have sold around 350 images on their site.
Another nice thing about EyeEm is they are partnered with Getty Images so you can get exposure there as well. When you upload your images you can give the image a title and tags like on most any other site and then you can click to submit them to the Market, below is my profile page.
Once you upload your image, their website will scan the image and generate tags for you and then you just give the image a title and location taken and then check the box to add it to EyeEm and their partner’s Marketplace and have the image available for sale. Your image will have to be reviewed by someone on the EyeEm team and once approve, you will get an email letting you know it’s available in the market. If you upload an image that requires a release, they will email you and let you know, and it can still be sold for Editorial purposes even if you don’t have a release.
When you want to offer your images for sale, you have to submit a PayPal email address or you can get a paper check I believe, but why would you want to wait for a check to arrive in the mail from Germany if you are in the United States like I am. Once an image has been approve for their marketplace, anytime you sell a copy, you will get an email from EyeEm letting you know you have sales and then click the link to request payout via PayPal. The nice thing is unlike some other sites that make you wait 90 days to get paid, EyeEm will usually have the money in your PayPal account within a few days!
Another nice thing when you have a sale, the email will have links so you can share your success on Twitter and Facebook and let your family, friends and clients see your success. This next image is a screenshot of an old clock I shot at a local Antique Mall in Monroe, Ga and this is one that has sold on Getty Images.
I like this shot not only for the antique, hanging clock, but I also love the amount of bokeh I was able to get, I used my Canon EF 85mm F/1.8 USM portrait lens as I know it makes awesome bokeh for images and because I shot indoors I knew I needed something that had a really wide aperture to get as much light as possible without having to crank my ISO way up. Anytime I shoot I try to keep my ISO as low as possible so as to prevent any kind of noise creeping into my images. Most of the time since my bodies are all full frame pro models, I keep the ISO at either 50 or 100 max if I can help it. Now don’t get me wrong, I have plenty of lights for when I need them, but I prefer natural light and have a LOT of fast, wide lenses in my collection. This next image is another one I have on EyeEm and it is by far my most popular image on EyeEm and Getty, and I captured it on Tybee Island, Ga as the sun was coming up over the Atlantic Ocean. I did NOT do any post processing on this image, it is straight out of the camera.
So if you are looking for a great photo sharing site that will allow you to make some money as well, I would highly recommend EyeEm.
